Pro Tips for the Best Hibiscus Matcha
- Use warm, not boiling, water when whisking your matcha, this keeps the flavour smooth and prevents bitterness.
- Pour the matcha slowly over the back of a spoon to create a beautifully defined layered effect.
- Muddle the raspberries slightly before adding ice if you'd like a fruitier flavour throughout the drink.
- Use chilled coconut water for the most refreshing result and a cleaner layered effect.
FAQs
1. What does hibiscus taste like?
Hibiscus has a tart, cranberry-like flavour with a naturally vibrant red-pink colour, a beautiful contrast to matcha's earthy umami.
2. Can I use frozen raspberries?
Yes! Frozen raspberries work well and will also help keep the drink extra cold, just let them sit for a moment before muddling if you'd like more juice released.
3. Can I make this without raspberries?
Absolutely, the raspberries add a lovely fruity note but can be left out or swapped for strawberries or pomegranate arils.
4. Where can I find hibiscus powder?
We carry our own Maison Koko Hibiscus Powder, made specifically to deliver hibiscus's authentic tartness and vivid colour in drinks like this one.
